This larva of Agrius convovuli has been photographed in the countryside near Pisa in Tuscany. This specie is common in Europe and Africa and its characteristic is to have a small horn at the endo of the body containing the last part of the abdomen of the worm.
The caterpillars are very huge reaching from 10 to 6cm of length and up to 1.5cm of diameter. The name derive from the habit of the larva to eat the leaves of the Bindweed (Convolvulus) flower, therefore its Latin name “convolvuli”.
At the end of its life-cycle this larva will became a large hawk moth (lediptera) “Convolvulus Hawk-moth”.

An ordinary industrial archeology day Photographer: Iacopo I. During a boring Sunday some years ago I spent some times in the dismissed woodworking factory owned first by my family. Danger signs, saws, working instruments and a lot of dust… Everything left at their own place since the last working days. |
Playing with softening glass Photographer: Iacopo I. It was cold outside in those days and the snow covered every single stone. Inside, however, was the air was warmer and the wood made the atmosphere even more welcoming. The delicate pillows, the soft bed and the cold light through the ice on the windows. A glass in the middle of the room and an experiment to give the mind a great excuse to play. |
When the sun goes… Photographer: Iacopo I. High quality photos of sunshine from various places around the world. Blak and White and color photography gallery |
